Abstract

SF 6 is an excellent gas insulating medium. In order to master the SF 6 decomposition characteristics under different negative DC partial discharge (DC-PD) types, and use it to diagnose the insulation faults type and severity in DC SF 6 gas insulated equipment (GIE), in this paper, four typical artificial defects were designed to investigate the decomposition of SF 6 . From analyzing the experimental results, the following conclusion can be obtained: SF 6 gas can be decomposed by the four kinds of negative DC-PD defects, and five stable decomposed components will be generated, namely, SO 2 , SOF 2 , SO 2 F 2 , CF 4 , and CO 2 . SO 2 F 2 and SOF 2 are the main SF 6 decomposed products. There is a close relationship between the insulation fault types and the concentration and concentration ratio of SF 6 decomposed products. At last, this study proposes to use three kinds of concentration ratios to make PD types recognition.
