Abstract

A flood hazard map of the Fushino River in Yamaguchi city was distributed for the residents in 2003. Big flood disasters in the Fushino River have not happened in three decades. The disaster awareness of the residents in the river basin might become weaker. It is important to examine an effect of the hazard map distributed for such residents. One of the purposes of this study is that a residents'; recognition of the hazard map of the Fushino River investigated by a questionnaire survey is reported in order to contribute an improvement of a hazard map of other river. This paper discusses an effectiveness of the hazard map in terms of four viewpoints, i.e., a recognition of the hazard map, a contribution of the hazard map to an improvement of the disaster awareness of the residents, an influence of a predicted water depth on an improvement of the disaster awareness and disaster measures of the residents and the most important information in the hazard map.
