Abstract

Differences in perinatal outcomes are well known between patients with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and pregestational diabetes (DM). It has been difficult to determine a new diagnosis of DM during pregnancy to provide adequate counseling. Our aim was to reclassify patients diagnosed with GDM in early pregnancy to DM using American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists suggested criteria to determine if outcomes in this reclassified group were like those for patients with White’s class B DM.
