Abstract

Recklinghausen's disease is classified as a rare disease in the Negro. American dermatologists with wide experience among Negro patients report seeing this condition infrequently. Lewis 1 surveyed the literature in 1942 and found that only three cases had been reported among the Negro race: Weiss, * in 1921, reported two typical and extensive cases in Negroes—one of a woman, aged 22, and the other of a man, aged 46. Another case in a Negro has been described by Heuer and Bell.† Niedelman 2 added a fourth Negro case. A search of the literature has failed to reveal any additional reports of Recklinghausen's disease among Negroes. I have seen five Cuban Negroes with Recklinghausen's disease, and herein report these cases. REPORT OF CASES Case L—C.
