Abstract
Channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT) requirements become crucial in massive multiple input multiple output (MaMIMO) systems, which are a key ingredient of 5G and are also well suited for licensed shared access (LSA) as they offer higher spatial resolution and multiplexing. This chapter discusses two approaches for handling CSIT that lead to limited overhead and are applicable to LSA. While the second approach is geared towards time division duplex (TDD) systems, the first is based on exploiting the multipath structure and would be applicable to frequency division duplex (FDD) systems or uncoordinated TDD systems. Both approaches extract CSIT information from the uplink (UL) to be used for downlink (DL) transmission. For the case of instantaneous reciprocity, the chapter deals with the TDD scenario in which reciprocity is only obtained after calibration of the radio frequency (RF) parts in the transmit and receive chains.
