Abstract
Dado que la enfermedad tiroidea es más frecuente en mujeres, el embarazo complicado con tirotoxicosis no es infrecuente, reportándose en los EE. UU. una incidencia de 0,2% (1,2). En tanto, en nuestro, país fluctúa, según las series, de 0,03% en el Hospital Loayza a 0,12% en el Hospital Dos de Mayo 3,4. El manejo de este problema sigue siendo controversial. Antiguamente se propugnaba la cirugía, idealmente en el segundo trimestre. Esta conducta se ha ido dejando de lado, empleándose con mayor frecuencia los antitiroideos, tales como el tapazol, en nuestro medio.
