Abstract
ObjectivesThe aim of this paper is to present a rare case of mandibular ameloblastoma treated by segmental bony box resection and mandibular reinforcement obtained with rigid fixation using a titanium mini plate. Materials and methodsA case of mandibular ameloblastoma recurrence is described, which was treated at the Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery of the University Hospital St. Anna, Ferrara, Italy. A radical excision and reinforcement with mandibular titanium plate was planned after an accurate study with CT Dental Scan, that confirmed the recurrence and showed the extension of the tumour. Results and ConclusionsIn mandibular ameloblastoma the recurrence rate is high if not properly treated. This tumour is a benign, locally invasive odontogenic lesion with a high rate of recurrence in the long term, if associated with an inadequate surgical approach.
