Abstract

This article introduces selected aspects of how the Arab Charter on Human Rights deals with children’s rights, focussing specifically on the death penalty, the rights to nationality and primary education, and the minimum age of marriage. It analyses the relevant provisions of the Arab Charter on Human Rights. It then examines the conclusions and recommendations made by the Arab Human Rights Committee when reviewing states reports on the implementation of the Charter. The article draws a comparison between the relevant provisions of international human rights treaties, specifically of the Arab Charter on Human Rights, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women. Lastly, this Paper compares the approaches of international treaty bodies with the approach of the Arab Human Rights Committee when considering state reports.
