Abstract

The author reviews the Canadian law governing the supervision of Canadian and Foreign Life Insurance Companies licensed to do business in Canada, and the related governmental regulations. He discusses at length the Canadian method of valuing future liabilities arising out of life insurance contracts, and draws a comparison with the situation in Germany. He further examines the provisions regarding the valuation of assets of life insurance companies and the regulations for the calculation of a Canadian Life Insurance Company’s surplus.
