Abstract

The relation between the energy resolution and time resolution of a scintillation counter is discussed. Formulae for the approximate calculation of the resolving time are derived. Especially, coincidence circuits with double pulseshaping and those with variable threshold are considered. In both cases the influence of the fluctuations of the electron transit-time and of the amplifier cutoff frequency are essentially small and therefore neglected in the calculations. In a way this work is an extension on the work of E. Gatti and collaborators 1).
