Abstract

There has been a steady decrease in the number of thyroidectomies performed in the last ten years. The greatest decline was among patients with nodular goiter. Recently there has been a relative increase in the number of patients operated on for Graves' disease. Serious persistent postoperative complications were infrequent and there were no postoperative deaths.
