Abstract

The main goal of the BaBar experiment is to study CP violation. In order to achieve this program we need a good $\pi$/K separation up to 4.3 GeV. To increase the detector capabilities we proposed to extend the particle identification in the forward region. With the development of new low density silica aerogel and powerful photodetectors able to work inside strong magnetic fields we have chosen an aerogel threshold counter, with two different refractive indices. Two designs readout by two different photo-detectors have been tested.
