Abstract

We present recent results on single- and multiparticle distributions and event-by-event fluctuations obtained for Pb+Pb collisions at the CERN SPS by experiment NA49. We argue that the available data can be understood in terms of simple physical pictures describing the evolution of the strongly interacting matter formed in the collision.
