Abstract

A discussion about a new experimental method for stopping power determination is presented. Using this monoenergetic method, relative stopping values for 4He + ion beams on 13A1 were obtained. The He + beam energies varied from 2.6 to 0.3 MeV in steps of a factor K (kinematic factor) to provide a relative stopping power curve. The normalization of the relative values was done using independent measurements at 2.0 and 1.0 MeV. The agreement between the present results and the tabulated values show the feasibility of the method. The present monoenergetic method is well suited as an option for the transmission method, and opens a new perspective to the study of the stopping of charged particles and correlated effects like straggling and beam density.
