Abstract
With the technology advancement, the use of electronic devices is rapidly increasing thereby causing undesired electromagnetic pollution. Electromagnetic radiations are considered as a serious threat to living organisms and hence the need of design of microwave absorbers is on high demand owing to its application in electronics and structural fields. Zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs), a sub-class of metal organic frameworks capable of mimicking zeolitic structures have gained tremendous attention from research community. Being a class of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), ZIFs show potential application in EMI shielding and microwave absorption and are considered as potential building blocks for the design and fabrication of microwave absorbers. In this review, we have focused our attention on ZIFs, ZIF hybrids and ZIF derived carbon materials having immense application in electromagnetic interference shielding and microwave absorption. So, this review presents an overall idea on how ZIFs can prevent this pollution and the different strategies on how these materials can be tailor-made to address the issue and provide shielding. Moreover, this review gives insight into MOFs, different synthesis strategies to develop ZIFs, EMI shielding effect of carbonaceous materials based on ZIFs and its composites.
