Abstract
AbstractThis review paper first describes a new concept of the thin film process in material synthesis on the basis of ion‐surface interaction during deposition. Some examples of practical applications of various thin films to automobiles are then given. They include optical thin films, sensor films and surface modification by ion implantation and thin film techniques. Finally, further challenges to applications of thin films to the automobile industry are discussed.
