Abstract

Peroxynitrite (ONOO−), a reactive oxygen species, is extensively found in organisms. It is strongly associated with many diseases, serving as a significant role in physiological and pathological processes. As a result, real-time and in situ detecting of ONOO− is important for the in-depth study of its biological functions. In recent years, the fluorescence detection technology has been widely used in the detection of ONOO−. In this review, we summarized and classified ONOO− fluorescent probes according to different interaction mechanisms, and we introduced their performance and applications in biological imaging. The specific challenges and future development prospects of ONOO− fluorescent probes are also concerned here. We expect that this review not only provides a reference for people who are just beginning to learn, but also provides an overall reference idea for developing a new generation of ONOO− fluorescent probes, promoting its widespread application in practice.
