Abstract

For the third consecutive Spring issue, the Review offers a selective survey ofsignificant court decisions which affect prisons, detention facilities, probation and parole agencies, and their clientele. The following summaries are drawn from reportedfederal court decisions made during 1983. It is important to note that these decisions do not necessarily serve as binding precedent outside the jurisdictions in which they were rendered, and that some of the decisions are being appealed. An update section reports on later developments in cases summarized in previous issues of the Review. Signed summaries were prepared by students in Georgia State University 's Criminal Justice Program. James L. Maddex, Jr., Professor of Criminal Justice and Legal Studies at Georgia State, prepared the remaining summaries.
