Abstract

Recent results in the field of “polarizational” bremsstrahlung are discussed. The bremsstrahlung cross-sections are presented for the collisions of medium-energy electrons with He, Ne and Xe atoms. It is shown that in the high frequency limit the total bremsstrahlung spectrum is the same as for a bare nucleus. It is demonstrated that in ion-atom collisions the polarizational bremsstrahlung is as intensive as from electrons and can serve as a source of radiation for X-ray laser pumping. Double bremsstrahlung taking the polarizational contribution into account is considered. Perspectives in this field are outlined.
