Abstract

Nucleic acid can bind to a complementary nucleic acid based on its sequence information. Therefore, nucleic acids can be applied to technology development related to detection and functional inhibition of nucleic acids having specific sequences. In recent years, with the increasing importance of nucleic-acid-based drug discovery, development of functional nucleic acids capable of exhibiting high functions under physiological conditions is also being actively carried out. In this review, we outline the synthetic approaches and basic properties of sugar-modified functional nucleic acids, especially those published after 2015.2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
