Abstract

Since the first application of the crosshole ground penetrating radar (GPR) full-waveform inversion (FWI) the highly sophisticated method was continuous further developed and applied to a wide range of different near surface applications. Here, we intent to provide an overview about the different optimization steps and the challenges to apply the FWI to aquifers, and time-lapse datasets to achieve high resolution decimeter scale reconstructions of subsurface properties. First, we will provide an overview of the method and afterwards we will demonstrate the challenges and potential of the method by showing the results of three case studies.
