Abstract

Changes in Japanese beetle ( Popillia japonica ) population tend to follow a definite sequence characterized by an initial rapid increase leading to a period of maximum abundance and followed by a decline. Illustrated in this paper by the results of an annual survey of the soil population of the insect for four successive years in three of the small municipal parks or “squares” of Philadelphia.
