Abstract

The family law provisions of the Hungarian Civil Code have been subject to several amendments since their entry into force in March 2014. The amendments are notable because of their effect on judicial practice or legal doctrine. This paper provides insights into the recent developments in certain areas of Hungarian family law, specifically registered partnerships, adoption and parental custody, in particular the changes to joint parental responsibilities and alternating residence, and evaluates them in the light of the relevant ECtHR case law and the requirements of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
