Abstract

During the past 5 years, the Australian National University's (ANU) experiences in acquiring materials from China and Southeast Asia have changed considerably. There has been a significant increase in published materials from the People's Republic of China (PRC) including reprints and a decrease in republishing production from Taiwan. Recently there have been a number of new suppliers of PRC materials. Within Southeast Asia information on available materials has dramatically increased including wider distribution of publishers' and dealers' catalogs. There are also many more bibliographic aids. Acquiring serials remains a problem for all areas. Limited acquisitions budgets are contributing to greater cooperation among Australian institutions, especially ANU and the National Library of Australia. Beginning in 1981 the Australian Bibliographical Network, linked with the Washington Library Network became operational.
