Abstract

This paper presents an overview of the recent advances achieved on visible light-responsive TiO2-based photocatalysts. In order to provide a focal point, we will highlight the work on transition metal ion-doped TiO2 and TiO2 thin films prepared by an RF magnetron sputtering deposition method, as well as their corresponding photoactivities on such significant reactions as organic decomposition and water splitting. Some of their proposed mechanisms are presented together with experimental physicochemical evidence to support the conclusions.
