Abstract

The transmission line matrix (TLM) method is a time domain method for modeling the behaviour of electromagnetic waves. This method is based on Huygens' principle which, in its original form, is a localized recursive definition of electromagnetic wave propagation in the time domain. Since propagation of electromagnetic waves is a complicate phenomenon which is hard to imagine, a state-of-the-art electromagnetic wave simulator based on this method has been implemented. This simulator incorporates all the advanced TLM concepts and procedures described in So et al. (1989) and Hoeffer and So (1991) using the object-oriented programming paradigm (Stroustrup, 1992). The connections between the graphical interface and the numerical computation modules are carefully designed so that other compatible numerical methods such as the finite difference time domain (FD-TD), finite difference (FD) and finite elements (FE) methods can be easily integrated into this simulator.
