Abstract

Abstract: Microbial resistance towards antibiotics has become a global threat to human health. There is currently an urgent need to develop novel antibacterial and antifungal agents with new mechanisms of antimicrobial action and lower levels of toxicity. This paper reviews the structureactivity relationship as well as the antimicrobial effect of substituted rhodanine derivatives. The inhibitory effects of the substituted rhodanines on different, specific antibacterial targets and the potential that rhodanine-derived compounds have to be new antibacterial compounds have been discussed in detail.
