Abstract

Photocatalysis is a cutting-edge technology with the potential to solve environmental pollution and energy crisis. In recent years, the great advantages of semiconductor quantum dots in the field of photocatalysis have attracted widespread attention, such as excellent visible light absorption, multi-exciton effect, surface effect and adjustable energy bands. Semiconductor quantum dots have indeed met people's expectations in the field of photocatalysis and have been successfully used in hydrogen production, CO2 reduction, pollutant degradation and other fields. This review focuses on the unique optoelectronic properties of semiconductor quantum dots that distinguish them from bulk materials, and describes the mechanisms and applications of these properties in the field of photocatalysis. We classify quantum dots into five categories, including elemental metal quantum dots, II-VI quantum dots, III-V and I-III-VI quantum dots, perovskite quantum dots. The properties and problems of each quantum dot are described, and the applications of quantum dot materials in solving environmental and energy problems are proposed. Finally, the research prospects of semiconductor quantum dot photocatalysts are also proposed.
