Abstract

This new edition appears nine years after the second. In that time there have been many advances in all fields of medicine, and the author has attempted to summarize the most significant ones in otolaryngology. The book is well written, with clear, concise summarization of important contributions to the literature. It makes no pretense to be a textbook or to cover all of the available literature. Adequate references are given at the end of each chapter. Chapters deal with anesthesia in otolaryngology, audiology, acoustic trauma, the deaf infant, aural vertigo, the surgical treatment of otosclerosis, sinus infections, carcinoma of the larynx, surgical advances in the treatment of middle ear suppuration, labyrinthine tests, facial palsy, the functions of the nose, benign nasal polyps, the nasopharynx, poliomyelitis and otolaryngology, pharyngeal diverticulum, the salivary glands, and the management of some esophageal diseases.
