Abstract

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a leading cause of cancer-related morbidity and mortality worldwide, largely as a result of 3 main factors: (1) competing risk of cirrhosis, which accompanies 80% to 90% of HCC diagnoses; (2) ineffective early detection programs; and (3) a historical lack of effective therapies, specifically for patients with intermediate- or advanced-stage disease. 1 Yang J.D.
