Abstract

The technological advancements and vast scientific explorations have led to emergence of various novel approaches for efficient delivery of biomolecules. Among different strategies employed to circumvent challenges associated with conventional drug delivery system, nanocarriers have shown promising results in various in-vivo models as well as clinical set up. Nanocarriers such as polymer-based nanoparticles and lipid-based liposomes in particular have successfully emerged as potential carrier system with many formulations approved for clinical use. In this chapter, we focus on polymer nanoparticles and various techniques for its preparation and characterization. We have also included elaborate discussion on applications of polymer nanoparticles in drug delivery as well as in achieving targeted drug delivery for improved therapeutic efficacy at a reduced dose and minimized adverse effects.
