Cerebral stroke is serious manifestation of various cerebrovascular diseases and common and frequently-occurring diseases that seriously threaten human health. As the retina and brain share similar anatomical features and physiologic properties, the retinal vessels offer a unique and easily accessible window to study the correlations and consequences of stroke in vivo. With the intensive study of stroke and vascular retinopathy, close relations were noted between incidence and prevalence of stroke and vascular retinopathy, especially hypertensive retinopathy and diabetic retinopathy. Therefore, this article summarizes the evidence and clinical significance on relation between stroke and vascular retinopathy. Key words: Stroke; Hypertensive retinopathy; Diabetic retinopathy
