Abstract

It is well known that estimation of global and regional cardiac function in systole and diastole should be very important in the assessment of the pathophysiology in patients with heart failure. Although many indexes have been proposed in the evaluation of cardiac function by echocardiography including Doppler techniques, recent advances in this field might be the development of the concept of total ejection isovolume (TEI) index and the methodological evolution of Doppler tissue imaging (TDI) and strain rate imaging.
