Abstract

To mark the two‐hundredth anniversary of the death of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on 5 December 1791, a number of museums put on special exhibitions during 1990/91. Some of these have shed light on a less‐well‐known facet of the composer's life and personality: his activity as a Freemason. In this article, the Grand Archivist of the Grand Lodge of Mozart's native Austria outlines his masonic membership and reports on some of the exhibitions.
