Abstract

Trachyonychia of childhood comprises a spectrum of nail plate surface abnormalities that result in roughness of the nail plate. Although the condition often resolves spontaneously, persistence for years is sometimes encountered. Controlled treatment trials to assess the efficacy of therapeutic agents in children with recalcitrant trachyonychia are missing. We report on the clinical effects of oral supplementation of biotin in the opaque as well as the shiny type of trachyonychia of childhood in two girls. (J Dermatol Treat (2000) 11:113-115)
