Abstract

The band near 1456 cm −1 observed recently [1] in the inelastic electron-tunnelling spectrum of HCO − 2 adsorbed on plasma-grown aluminium oxide should not be assigned to CO stretching or any other vibration of HCO − 2 but to an extraneous species (such as e.g. carbonate). No reassignment of the HCO − 2 frequencies is warranted.
