Abstract

AbstractA marble bust of Sydney Owenson (?1776–1859, known as Lady Morgan after her marriage in 1812) is one of the images included in a current exhibition at London's National Portrait Gallery, running from 9 March to 19 June 2005, entitled ‘Conquering England’: Ireland in Victorian London. Owenson's inclusion in the exhibit recognizes her significant role as part of an influential Irish cultural presence in nineteenth‐century Britain – in her case one that spanned the Romantic and Victorian periods.
