Abstract

Objective To investigate the rea-sons of elevated alanine aminotransferase level in HBeAg negative patients with low viremia. Methods Liver biopsies were performed in forty-nine HBeAg negative patients with low viremia, and their serum ALT,AST,ALP,γ-GT,TBIL,TG,TC,Glucose levels,BMI were detected routinely. Results Mean ALT level was(95 ±39. 7)IU/L,there was no significant difference between the groups in ALT,AST,ALP,TBIL,TG,TC,glucose levels,BMI,γ-GT;Hepatic steatosis, ground-glass hepatocyte, chronic hepatitis, and Wilson disease were found in liver biopsy in 38. 8%,32. 6%,26. 6%,2%;In 2 cases of hepatic steatosis steatohepatitis were in G2S3 and G3S4,nearly half of chronic hepatitis patients in S3 and S4. Conclusions Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is the most common cause of elevated ALT levels in HBeAg negative, low vire-mia patients, followed by chronic hepatitis B,the liver fibrosis and inflammation of most patients were severe. Key words: HBeAg; HBV DNA; Hepatic steatosis; Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) ; Chronic hepatitis; Liver biopsies
