His research explores media coverage, political discourse, public opinion, and their implications for democracy and social power, with a particular focus on how critical cultural theory and empirical analysis can be synthesized to interrogate representations of class and economic inequality in the United States. He is co-author of Influence From Abroad: Foreign Voices, The Media, and U.S. Public Opinion (Cambridge University Press, 2013). A former newspaper reporter, he holds a PhD in political science from Syracuse University.
