Treatment of furfuraldehyde with 2 mol of aniline yields a colourless product which, from its spectral properties and those of its products of hydrogenation, has been shown to possess the structure 2,4-dianilinocyclopent-2-enone. A number of other simple aromatic amines have been shown to form products of similar structure.
