Abstract

Rear-end collisions can be categorized according to the pre-crash behavior of the drivers involved in the accidents. In this study, some typical major scenarios of rear-end collisions were identified by examining the characteristics of human error relevant to these accidents. The validity of the scenarios was verified based on simulations conducted with the Monte Carlo method. Possibilities for using these scenarios as the basis for implementing measures to prevent rear-end collisions are also described.
