Abstract
Real-time power system simulation is becoming a standard technology in designing new devices and analysing power system dynamics. This survey paper first describes the demand and requirement for the real-time simulation from the user's points of view. Then recent simulation technologies are studies from the supplier's points of view. Following this, seven real simulators used in power companies are selected and each is summarized along with practical experiences and evaluations of theme. Finally, some future issues and the potentials of real-time simulation are discussed.
