Abstract
Real time simulation of a cascaded sliding mode position control for high performance linear induction motor drive is presented in this paper. Field oriented control technique (FOC) is employed to control the position, speed and current of the linear induction motor. The sliding mode control (SMC) was applied in addition to space vector PWM to regulate the position, speed and current. The Lyapunov stability theorem was derived to prove that the sliding surface is stable under load change and uncertainties occurred in the parameters of the linear induction motor. The performance of the SMC drive was compared with a conventional proportional integral controller (PI). Real time simulation was employed to achieve the system operation using the dSPACE DS-1103 platform.
