Abstract
Smart manufacturing as an advanced technology provides real-time data collection, processing and decision-making to manage manufacturing in real time. Development of advanced ICT technologies provides conditions to retrieve performance measures for economic and environmental sustainability in real time. Real-time management is of special interest within the context of environment dynamics, which is virtually the most important feature of the current markets. One of the most important instruments for the implementation of real-time management is cyber-physical production systems. In this chapter, an introduction to real-time management-based production scheduling is presented, including a model for calculation of principal performance measures for economic and environmental sustainability, namely processing time, cost and CO2 emissions as criteria for production scheduling, including an illustrative didactic example.
