Abstract

We have studied the real-time performance of an interval type-2 fuzzy PID (IT2-FPID) controller on a DC servo drive unit. Though the major limitation of type-2 fuzzy logic controller (FLC) is its computational complexity however it is quite robust to endure disturbances and parameter uncertainties compared to type-1 fuzzy PID controller (FPID). In a servo control system there is a prerequisite that the control action should be very precise. Performance analysis of the proposed type-2 fuzzy PID controller (IT2-FPID) in presence of noise and load disturbances on DC servo motor application provides satisfactory behavior over the reputed peak observer based self- tuning interval type-2 fuzzy PID controller (IT2-POFPID). In case of model uncertainty, responses of IT2-FPID provides noticeably improved performance compared to IT2-POFPID.
