Abstract

This paper proposes a real-time data acquisition and analysis system for small-scale reactors based multi-purpose regional energy systems. The small-scale reactor system which is a small nuclear distributed generation system produces electricity and heat like a co-generation system. The dynamics of the small- scale reactor system, named the REX-10 (Regional Energy rX 10 MVA) need to be analyzed in order to find out the impact of the interconnection to power system. This analysis requires real-time simulations for the power system since it needs data communication with the remote REX-10. The RTDS (real time digital simulator) have been used for the simulation, and a SCADA/HMI system interfaced with the RTDS is proposed for the purpose of monitoring and control of the regional energy system. ecently Korea has started to consider distributed energy sources based on small reactors as a CO2 emission reduction program. Since Korea has many small islands, the small scale reactor can be used as a stable base generator there. It can supply electric power and heat with the local area. In order to validate the use the small reactor on a small electrically-isolated island, economic and dynamic analysis of the implementation need to be performed. This paper proposes an integrated system which consists of a real-time simulator, a SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) system, a small reactor, IEDs and an HMI (Human-Machine Interface). This system works for the analysis and monitoring of the power system with unmanly operated small reactors. This paper deals with the RSCAD/RTDS electrical models of the small scale reactor and power systems. The connection between the RTDS and the SCADA system is implemented to visualize the electrical data and have control actions.
