Abstract

It is shown that the parabolic rule for the proton-neutron multiplets is realized when an algebraic distinction is made between the particle-like and the hole-like unpaired nucleons in constructing Bose-Fermi symmetry schemes. An example is given when both the odd-proton and the odd-neutron occupy j = 3 2 orbitals
