Abstract

In this work, stability of fixed-point digital filters with saturation nonlinearities is examined. A new lemma is presented to characterize saturation nonlinearities in greater detail. By using the developed lemma, an improved criterion is proposed under which the digital filters with saturation nonlinearities are shown to be asymptotically stable. Due to usage of the lemma, the presented approach provides a better stability region that may not be covered by existing conditions. The applicability and efficiency of the proposed approach are verified with numerical examples. The validity of the established criterion is also verified for practical systems such as transmultiplexer.
