Abstract

We propose a novel orthogonal modulation scheme-amplitude shift keying with frequency shift keying labeling for optical label switching. The ASK payload and FSK label are simultaneously generated by a dual-parallel Mach–Zehnder modulator. The ASK payload is encoded by Manchester coding, in order to minimize the impact of “0” payload signal on the whole system performance. The transmission performance of the modulation scheme is demonstrated in this paper. The results show that this modulation scheme applying only one modulator can greatly increase the ER and the tolerance of nonlinear effect.
