Abstract

Two coherent optical systems are described that can realize local 3 × 3 preprocessing operators such as the Sobel edge-enhancement function in parallel on a 2-D input image. Realization using a multiple exposure matched spatial filter and a computer-generated hologram are discussed and experimental results using both techniques are presented. The basic technique can be directly extended to allow realization of most nonlinear local preprocessing operators. Two coherent optical systems are described that can realize local 3 × 3 preprocessing operators such as the Sobel edge-enhancement function in parallel on a 2-D input image.
